
Memorial Park
Any Houston traveling trip should incorporate a visit to the Memorial Park Houston, a landmark of the city. One of the biggest in the US, the memorial park is a municipal property. It was inaugurated in the year 1924. The park is spread over an impressive area of 1,466 acres.
In the year 1936, the Memorial Park Golf Course was inaugurated. The 18-hole course is celebrated as one of the best in the state of Texas. The golf course is known to be patronized by many of the state's illustrious residents. It was reconstructed and modernized in the year 1995 with the cost of the renovations topping $7 million.
The initial design and structural layout for the landscape of the park was done by architectural firm Hare and Hare, based in Kansas City in Missouri.

Houston travel is not complete without a visit to the magnificent Houston Memorial Park. The park serves a variety of purposes: offering an excellent jogging track of 2.88 miles, swimming pool, fitness facilities, tennis grounds and trails for cycling: proving to be a haven of sorts for the fitness conscious.
The park also houses a nature centre. The Houston Arboretum and Nature Centre comprising a botanical park and an arboretum is an added attraction of the park. The nature centre was inaugurated in the year 1967. The nature centre is spread over a region of 155 acres.

The park is located near downtown Houston, towards the western end. Owing to its varied opportunities for relaxation, recreation, tourist appeal and sightseeing, the Houston Memorial Park is extremely popular both with tourists and with inhabitants of the city. It is one of the most prized achievements of the Park Department and a celebrated trophy of the state government.
